Mitch Kilmer, a Los Alamitos dad, got a huge but welcomed surprise this past week as his wife Shane gave birth to their daughter McKenzie on the way to Anaheim Regional Medical Center.
The drama was captured and reported by the CBS Channel 9 as Mitch Kilmer drove his wife along the 91 Freeway.
Apparently, said Kilmer, his wife went into labor three weeks early and they were rushing towards the hospital on the 91 Freeway when Shane said “it’s coming, it’s coming.”
Kilmer said by the time he could say “Ok honey,” he began to hear the baby crying as she was delivered, or practically delivered herself moving down the highway, with her big sister in the back seat.
By this time, the L.A. County Fire Department showed up to assist and help Kilmer cut McKensize’s umbilical cord there on the spot.
“I was so nervous,” Shane told the tv station.
Kilmer joked and said, “I think it runs in the family,” noted that Shane’s mother delivered her sister on the back of a three-wheeled motorcycle on the way to the hospital.
The station reported both mother and daughter were admitted for observation but back home the next day. The family is reportedly doing fine after the very special delivery.
