The 2012 Mustang 9-year-old All-Stars were recognized by the Los Alamitos City Council on Monday, for winning the West Zone World Series earlier this summer.

They are the third team in the 50-year history of LAYB to go all the way and win the West Zone World Series.

The team record was 23-3-1 highlighted by 308 total runs scored, (9) wins by mercy, and an unbeaten record of 4-0 at the World Series. The final game was won 4-2 over Simi Valley in seven innings.

The team will be remembered as 13 talented kids and a dedicated coaching staff who committed to a mission, played great all season, won the World Series and had a blast on and off the baseball field together, manager Ken Bamberg said.

Bamberg was emotionally moved when he spoke to the crowd at the meeting on Monday. He said the team came together and the families bonded and supported them as friends. He called it a legendary summer and one he knows will be rare.

“You can coach your whole life and never have a team like this,” Bamberg said.
