Long lost rings look for rightful owners

We’ve all heard the expression, ‘looking for a needle in a haystack.” This story is more about a found needle and now trying to locate the haystack from which it came.

Recently, two ladies with the Courtyard by Marriott in Cypress, contacted me about a long-shot attempt to find the owner of two lost rings. Somewhere around 2006 to about August 2007, someone found two wedding ring sets in the public bathroom of the Courtyard lobby area. Because they were clearly of more value than a pair of sunglasses, they were put into an envelope and placed in the safe. Unfortunately, the usual lost and found list was not updated immediately, so if someone had returned soon after misplacing them, most of the employees may not have been aware of the rings in the safe.

Eventually, the rings were forgotten in the back of the safe, until one of the hotel’s annual internal auditors found them.

Now, Director of Sales Sally Brayton and Sales Manager Cherie Sorrentino are trying to get the word out, in case the owners of the rings may still be found. The rings are two wedding ring sets, and were found together, so they likely belong to the same person.

“I know someone is heartbroken out there,” Brayton said.

Because the rings were found in the only public bathroom in the lobby and conference room area, Brayton and Sorrentino are hopeful that the owner was someone local, who was there for a function, or meeting. Had they been an out-of-town guest of the hotel, they likely would have used the restroom in their room, presumably.

Because it was so long ago, they cannot pin down exactly when the rings were found. But Sorrentino was the one who took the rings from the housekeeper and put them in the safe. She is fairly certain that it was a weekday, and not a weekend event like a wedding reception. So, Brayton and Sorrentino asked me to put something in the paper to hopefully find the owners, who can call and describe the rings and somehow prove they are the owners. If you are reading this and think they might be yours, you can call and ask about them. If you know someone who has relayed a story about losing two rings at the hotel, or even in the Cypress area, but might not remember exactly where they left them, let them know about this story. Brayton and Sorrentino can be reached at 714-827-1010. I looked at the rings, but don’t want to offer too much about the description, but feel free to call me if you want to know if you might be on the right track.
