Los Alamitos Unified School District announced that Mrs. Ann Allen has been selected as the new Principal for McAuliffe Middle School.

Allen has worked at the middle school level in Los Alamitos for 27 years. Beginning at Pine Middle School, she taught a variety of subjects including reading, language arts, social science, science, and mathematics. In addition, she worked in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education developing and piloting a program in environmental education and providing staff development to surrounding school districts in southern California.  In 1997, while teaching eighth grade science, Allen was selected as the Los Alamitos Unified School District Teacher of the Year.

Allen served as the Learning Specialist at McAuliffe Middle School and was responsible for the coordination and implementation of special programs, including GATE, EL, RTI and Assessments for the site. In 2006, she was selected to serve as assistant principal at McAuliffe and she will continue to do so until she takes over her new position as principal toward the end of January.

Allen received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts and her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from United States International University. When asked about being named McAuliffe’s next principal, she said, “I am thrilled to continue to work with the students, staff and parents in the McAuliffe school community, and I am grateful to be given the opportunity to further the legacy of success associated with our school.”

“We are grateful that Mrs. Allen will serve as our next principal.  Her knowledge, expertise, and care for children make her an exceptional leader in our district,” Superintendent Dr. Sherry Kropp said.

Allen lives in Cypress with her husband of 30 years, Tom, and their two children, Sara and Thomas, who both attend Los Alamitos High School.
