Los Al grad named lacrosse defensive player of week

Aurora University Junior and Cypress native, Spencer Fuqua (Los Alamitos High) was named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) Defensive Player top honors for the week ending March 17.

Aurora University Junior and Cypress native, Spencer Fuqua (Los Alamitos High) was named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) Defensive Player top honors for the week ending March 17.

The long-stick midfielder began his college career in 2011, appearing in 17 games. He attended Los Alamitos High School and played varsity lacrosse for two years under Coach Kevin Meyran. He also played two years of varsity soccer under Coach Donovan Martinez.

In 2012, Fuqua started 16 games, scoring one goal, one assist, and 43 ground balls.

Sophomore Max Obriecht (Naperville, Ill.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week.

Fuqua and Obriecht led AU to a 2-0 week with a 34-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering and a 23-3 win over Hanover College.

Fuqua, a long stick midfielder, had 10 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers during the Spartans’ two MLC wins. He had two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers against MSOE, and then tallied an assist, seven ground balls and caused nine turnovers against Hanover.
