Oxford Academy top API scorer
Oxford Academy, which is a grade 6-12 school located in Cypress, earned the honor of becoming the leading API scorer in the Anaheim Union School District.
Los Al passes by University
Los Alamitos High quarterback Cody Marshall threw for 230 yards and scored a touchdown on a quarterback keeper to lead the Griffins to a 42-0 win over University High of Los Angeles on Thursday at Long Beach Veteran’s Stadium. The Griffins returned to action yesterday against Lynwood (score not available due to production conflicts).
Modena bests Cypress
Cypress High linebacker Nathan Mills (45) tackles El Modena High running back Austin Victer (9) in a non-conference game Aug. 31 in Orange. El Modena defeated Cypress 11-9 in large part due to Victer’s 184 yard rushing performance.
Former First Lady of Cypress gets 15 years
On Friday, Sept. 7, the wife of a former Cypress Mayor, Brinda Sue McCoy, was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for shooting at responding police officers after calling 911 and initiating a stand-off. While free on bail McCoy also allegedly attempted to commit suicide.
Chase Bank comes to Cypress
Chase Bank will open a new branch in Cypress. The Chase Bank management team recently met with members of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce Board, as well as ambassadors and city officials, at a ribbon cutting event earlier this month.
The new bank is at the corner of Ball Road and Valley View Street.
Cypress High tops Wilson
On Sept. 12, Cypress High head coach Joseph Paul gives his team a pep talk before the start of the third round, which the Centurions entered tied at 6-6 with the Bruins. Cypress would eventually defeat Wilson a 12-8 triumph.
Crime lab director speaks at Networking Breakfast
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, Joe Hourigan, director of the Scientific Investigation Division for the Los Angeles Crime Lab, was the guest speaker at this month’s Cypress Chamber of Commerce Networking Breakfast, which unfolded at the Residence Inn by Marriott. Griffins clamp down on Knights
Two Los Alamitos High football players who had been hampered by injuries, returned on Thursday night to spark the Griffins to a 48-7 win over Lynwood, at Veteran Stadium.
Running back Ricardo Molina rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown to pace the Griffin offense. Defensive back James Stea, who had been limited by a broken foot, intercepted a pass and blocked a punt to set up two Griffin touchdowns.
