Neighbors prepare for disaster
With a crowd of just under 200 in attendance, a second Neighbor 4 Neighbor (N4N) event was held at the Cypress Village HOA on June 8.
Measure A headed for defeat
As of Tuesday night, the vote count from the Orange County Registrar’s office was showing the Measure A in Cypress was headed for defeat by a wide margin. The no votes out numbered the yes votes by more that 2-1.
Dalton’s Restaurant burglarized on Sunday
Cypress Police officers were dispatched to Dalton’s Restaurant regarding a commercial burglary on June 23. Officers discovered the front door glass had been shattered and that a safe containing approximately $2,000 had been stolen.
Dalton’s Café burglarized
Popular family restaurant Dalton’s Café was victimized by burglars on Sunday, June 23, who smashed the front door and left with the safe.
The safe reportedly contained approximately $2,000 in cash.
Dalton’s Café owner Marlene Raynor said she received a called from the alarm company at 11:20 p.m.
“My son Dalton drove over to check the restaurant,” she said. “He saw the broken glass and called 911.”
Second place in sand soccer
The Cypress AYSO Boys U8 team took second place this past weekend at the 2013 Huntington Beach Sand Soccer Tournament. Coach Christian Harris led the boys who tied their first game on Saturday and won their second game, which qualified them for the semifinals on Sunday morning. In the final championship game they tied 3-3, but lost in a shoot out, taking second overall in the tournament.
Women’s Club delivers to USO
The Woman’s Club of Cypress recently delivered cosmetic bags to Bob Hope Hollywood USO at Los Angeles International Airport. Each bag contained personal travel items and a handwritten thank you note.
RCSD goes to paperless format
Rossmoor Community Services District Board has done away with bulky binders and reams of paper in favor of the Apple iPad. The District’s Paperless Agenda Program made its debut at the June 9 board meeting.
Cypress resident named LBSU President Scholar
Cypress resident Elizabeth A. Chelling was named a President’s Scholar with the 2013 incoming freshman class at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and has been awarded a full, four-year scholarship from the university, worth about $70,000.
Pressure in Cypress continues
The Cypress City Council June 10 meeting featured another round of pressure from the local community about the upcoming special election for Measure A.
RHA hands out scholarships
The Rossmoor Homeowners Association recently announced the winners of the High School Scholarship contest, Lexi Mossler, Andrew Woyshner, and Kristi Okino. All three are seniors at Los Alamitos High School.
