A revitalized program honoring veterans with commemorative banners called the Banners of Honor Program is close to replacing banners on various light poles on Katella Ave. and Lexington Dr.

“I know our community is united and patriotic. We have come together in the past to express our appreciation to our military, I know we can do it again,” said Nancy Karmelich, who founded the program in 2011.
Since the first batch of banners were installed, several have weathered, torn or even fallen off, which is why a renewal to the program has come about.
Currently 96 banners need replacing.
Now the program is seeking more sponsors from the community.
You can personalize your new sponsor banner at the bottom, with your name, your company’s name, school name, or the name of the person in the military you would like to honor. A personalized banner will let Veterans, and the rest of the community, know who is supporting them as they drive by the banner on the light-pole.
About Banners of Honor
The current project in Los Alamitos is a non-profit 501(c)(3), called “Banners of Honor” founded by Nancy Karmelich, who’s a Los Alamitos/Rossmoor resident, in 2011. The banners will be hung on the light-poles for the next 3 years. The banner locations are on Katella from the 605 freeway to Walker St. (Costco). Sponsors may choose a military character word for the front side of their banner, choose from 2 styles of back sides. Sponsor’s name will be printed at the bottom of their banner. (go to website for more details).
The deadline to see your banner mounted by Veterans Day is Friday, Oct. 28. Visit the Banners of Honor website (http://www.bannersofhonor.com/) to sponsor your banner, and for more information email Banners of Honor at bannersofhonor@yahoo.com or call 562-896-3582.
