During the December 10, 2012 Cypress City Council meeting, the City Council unanimously selected Dr. Prakash Narain to serve as the city’s Mayor, and Leroy Mills to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem for 2013.
During the December 10, 2012 Cypress City Council meeting, the City Council unanimously selected Dr. Prakash Narain to serve as the city’s Mayor, and Leroy Mills to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem for 2013.
The city council also welcomed two new faces to the dais. The city had two open seats for the November election. Council Members Phil Luebben and Todd Seymore had reached the end of their two lifetime terms. Mariellen Yarc and Rob Johnson were elected to the City Council.
Members of the Cypress Woman’s Club wore pink in support of Council Member Yarc. “It’s a sign that the women of Cypress will have a voice,” said the council woman after taking the oath of office. “I hope to live up to your hopes and expectations,” she added.
Council member Johnson thanked his family for their patience during his campaign and for their support. He stated that he intends to use “In God We Trust” as guidance for his responsibilities as a city council member.
Mayor Narain expressed his gratitude for being selected to serve as mayor. He had previously served as mayor pro tem in 2009 and as the mayor in 2010. “It is an honor to be selected by my esteemed colleagues to serve as mayor for 2013. I look forward to continuing to lead this city down the path of success,” Narain said. “In 2013, we will continue our progressive infrastructure improvement projects. Streets will continue to be improved and maintained. Sidewalks and concrete will continually be monitored for quality, repair, and replacement and sewer lines will be removed and replaced or relined,” added the mayor.
Mayor Pro Tem Mills previously served as mayor pro tem in 2008 and as mayor in 2011. Mayor Pro Tem Mills congratulated council members Yarc and Johnson for their election to the council, and stated that he looks forward to continuing to serve a city that is healthy and balanced.
Mayor Narain, Mayor Pro Tem Mills, and Council Member Doug Bailey’s second and final term ends in 2014. Council Members Yarc and Johnson’s first term ends in 2016.
