Los Alamitos Griffin Girls’ Tennis finished in medals in both Varsity and J.V. Sunset League Finals matches.

Varsity singles players finished in the top two places with the final match between Los Al sophomores, with Aliya Alenikov winning gold and Jennifer Lu with silver.  Los Al finished in the medals with Varsity doubles.  Senior Sarah Edwards and sophomore Sydney Bott won a hard fought match against Newport Harbor to win gold.  Los Al seniors Megan Coats and Melissa Gahungu won the consolation match to finish the season with a bronze medal.

Los Al freshman Karoline Pintar played strong to win her first Sunset League title in J.V. singles against Newport Harbor.  Juniors Claire Akashi and Stephanie Kim played several tie-breaking rounds to win silver in the final round of J.V. doubles.

The Griffin girls’ top Varsity players are preparing for CIF-SS Division I matches coming up in the next couple of weeks.  It will be an exciting finish to a strong high school career for the graduating seniors, and a great introduction to CIF Southern Section competition for the highly ranked Los Al underclassmen.

With so many strong players returning next year, Los Al Varsity Head Coach, Kevin Garret and J.V. Coach Brian Collison are already excited about repeating the strong 2012 season next year.
