For decades in Southern California the name Munro was well known as a home furnishing store. Starting in 1965, Munro Furniture became a popular string of stores in the area.
Cypress PD arrests vandalism suspect
Cypress Police reported the arrest of a vandalism suspect for a string of recent tire slashings in Cypress.
Hope for the holidays
Cub Scouts from St. Hedwig’s Pack 620 gathered together to assemble over 55 Christmas stockings for the Armed Forces stationed overseas. The scouts donated treats like beef jerky, cookies, granola bars and chewing gum to fill each stocking, and they included a handwritten Christmas card in each stocking signed by the scouts. Den Leader Nate Morrissey coordinated this project with the help of the non-profit group “Words of Comfort, Hope and Promise” who will be shipping the stockings to the Troops in time for Christmas.
LAHS cross country finishes strong
It was the end of an amazing season on Saturday at the CIF finals at Mt. SAC college as the Los Alamitos High girls, “little blue wrecking crew” placed 12th overall. With more than 200 teams in Division I, it was an impressive finish.
Racing expansion seeking approval
Los Alamitos Race Track is set to seek final approval of its expansion plans at the Monday Cypress City Council meeting, but track officials are saying the plans are far less complex than has been reported.

The Rossmoor Community Services District Board of Directors unanimously chose to appoint James D. Ruth as the district’s new general manager at its regular meeting of November 20.
LAHS wins CIF-SS volleyball title
The Los Alamitos High girls’ volleyball team won its sixth CIF-SS title, besting Mater Dei in the final, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23 on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Santiago Canyon College at Orange. It is the second title in three years for the Griffins, who also won the championship in 2011. The Griffins improved their overall record to 32-4 with the win. They received an impressive performance from Crissy Jones, who delivered a team-high 20 kills and 19 digs. Annie Hale added 19 kills and Rylee Hunt recorded 35 digs.
Cypress falls to Edison
The Cypress High football team’s season came to an end in the first round of the CIF Southwest Division playoffs at Orange Coast College. On Friday, Nov. 22, it suffered a 35-14 defeat to Edison.
Los Al rolls Knights in first round
The Los Alamitos High football team delivered an impressive all-around performance in the first round of the CIF Southwest Division playoffs. It defeated Foothill with a 42-0 victory on Friday, Nov. 15 to advance to the next round.
Thomas receives Purple Heart medal
Rossmoor resident Bill Thomas, who is a writer and is active in local Veterans organizations, turned 90 on Nov. 12, 2013.
Tree lot gives youths a chance to give back
The Los Alamitos Youth Center’s Christmas tree lot is set to open at the end of November. The lot is one of the center’s biggest fundraisers, but has also become a chance to youths to learn some valuable lessons, while helping the center that helps them.
