The Los Alamitos High School Griffin varsity girl’s tennis team recently celebrated the end of a great season by being honored by the Los Alamitos Board of Education at the final board meeting of 2013.

The team dominated Sunset League winning the league trophy for the third year running. Both the singles and doubles finals were decided between Griffins players. Those top two singles and doubles moved on to have some of the best finishes ever for Los Al players at the CIFSS individual competitions.

At the CIFSS Championships, the Griffins beat a higher seeded team moving into the quarter-finals where they met the highest rated team in California. Even that loss was impressive since Los Al scored more points against the undefeated Peninsula team than any other team all season.

Coach Kevin Garrett is proud that not only is the team highly skilled at tennis, but nearly all of the players on the varsity and j.v. teams have won Scholar Athlete awards.
