Recently, U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr. announced that Francis Hopkinson Elementary School has been named a 2016 National Exemplary High Performing Blue Ribbon School. Hopkinson is one of three schools in Orange County and among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor across the nation.
Recently, U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr. announced that Francis Hopkinson Elementary School has been named a 2016 National Exemplary High Performing Blue Ribbon School. Hopkinson is one of three schools in Orange County and among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor across the nation.
Schools are nominated for the award by the State Department of Education, and then complete a comprehensive application highlighting school practices. Hopkinson applied as an Exemplary High Performing School, which means they competed to be named among the top schools in the state of California and were compared nationally. As stated by the U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr., Hopkinson is “… on the cutting edge, pioneering innovative educational practices—professional learning communities, project-based learning, social and emotional learning, positive behavior systems—making you (Hopkinson), shining examples for your communities, your state, and the nation.”
Hopkinson Principal, Evelyn Garcia, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Ondrea Reed, and Hopkinson teacher, Jenny Stuart, will represent the school site in November at a two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the recent achievement.
