On Dec. 1, a Tanglewood North group and a contingent from the Women’s Club of Cypress delivered 310 overflowing buddy boxes, books, games, puzzles, handmade blankets, hats and throws to patients at Long Beach Veterans Hospital.

The intent of this annual event was to let every veteran in the hospital know that the City of Cypress and its residents will never forget their service and sacrifice to our country.

The group had enough boxes to deliver one to the bedside of every single patient in the hospital, thanking them for their service. Every six-quart box contained either a military-style or golf cap, a t-shirt with a logo, a pair of socks, a 4X6 photo frame, a book, an LED flashlight with batteries and a variety of other items. Each box also contained three or more handmade Christmas cards and letters from Cypress-area school children.

One student wrote, in a heart-shaped card, “Dear veteran, I want to thank you for all the hard work you’ve done for our country. We all owe you our freedom. Because of you we are still here with a better country. Your endurance influenced me to become a better person. Without you, our country wouldn’t be as safe as it is now. I could say thank you a million times and it still wouldn’t describe the respect and the greatness I have for you. I just want to say that keep doing what you are best at, protecting people. Be safe & Happy Holidays! Love, Vanessa.”
