Cypress mayor petitions OC Supervisors for vaccine site

Mayor Jon Peat

Mayor Jon Peat has petitioned the Orange County Board of Supervisors to prioritize a mobile Point of Distribution center for the COVID-19 vaccine in Cypress.

In a letter this week, Peat said he was “writing with the unanimous support of the Cypress City Council on behalf of our 50,000 residents, nearly 10,000 of whom are seniors or disabled, to urge the County of Orange to prioritize a COVID-19 mobile POD distribution in Cypress.”

In addition, Peat said he wanted to “offer our support in serving the communities of north Orange County.”

“As the Board is well aware, the super PODs are not able to adequately serve some of theCounty’s senior and disabled residents due to technological and transportation challenges while mobile PODs must be deployed to areas where they will be most effective,” said Peat in the letter.

Peat informed the board that Cypress is home to north Orange County’s best known and most successful senior center.

“It is a regional draw, filled with as many residents of neighboring cities as it is with Cypress residents. During the pandemic, our senior center has distributed more than 45,000 meals and is a trusted source for pandemic information and support,” he said.
Together, he said, “Cypress and the County can leverage our senior center’s stellar reputation and effectiveness to protect our community and our neighbors in Seal Beach, Rossmoor, Los Alamitos, La Palma, Buena Park, west Anaheim and west Garden Grove all of whom can easily access facilities in Cypress.”

He said Cypress is an established north Orange County hub, hosting our neighbors at Cypress College and students from throughout Anaheim Union High School District at Oxford Academy and Lexington Junior High. “We are committed to continuing to lead our region and partnering with the County and neighboring cities help resolve the pandemic,”said Lauderback as the career law enforcement officer prepares to become the next Police Chief in Cypress.
