Province Group CEO Mark J. Kerslake recently announced the company held a groundbreaking ceremony on November 1 for the Barton Place mixed-use development located on the long vacant 33-acre property at 4921 Katella Avenue in Cypress. Mayor Yarc, Mayor Pro-Tem Morales, Council Member Berry, and Council Member Johnson were on-site to celebrate the groundbreaking for the project, which was unanimously approved by the Cypress City Council last year. The development will consist of 244 age-restricted (55 and over) homes, a one-acre amenity center and clubhouse, and 50,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space along the Katella frontage. “I am very pleased that Province Group is bringing such a great mixed-use project to our community. The combination of high-quality senior housing and retail will be a great addition to Cypress.” said Council Member Jon Peat.
Council Member Stacy Berry, who volunteers at the Cypress Senior Center, said that “The Barton Place project will bring much needed high-quality housing for seniors in our community.” The project is projected to take 18-24 months to complete, with model homes opening in the next 9 months. “We are excited to see the long-anticipated young senior living development in the City of Cypress, delivering what the people of Cypress wanted.” said Council Member Rob Johnson about the commencement of construction at Barton Place and the addition of new homes, of which there are very few in Cypress. Council Member Paulo Morales said that he is “happy about the project and excited to see it get built.”
In addition to the single-family homes, the property will include approximately 5-7 retail/restaurant users within the neighborhood-serving commercial center. Mayor Yarc said that she is “especially eager to see the retail component of the project come to fruition, as a lot of the retail in the community, and especially along Katella, is very dated. The architectural plans show a high-quality retail center that will not only serve the residents of Barton Place, but also the entire community.”
