St. Isidore Plaza was transformed into a winter wonderland on Sunday, as Los Alamitos held its first Christmas tree lighting ceremony to celebrate the holiday season.

The Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals, in conjunction with the City of Los Alamitos presented the city’s first tree lighting ceremony, “Winter Wonderland at the Plaza.”

More than 1,200 residents found St. Isidore Historical Plaza and Reagan Street transformed into a holiday-themed wonderland with 25 tons of snow, a trackless train, arts & crafts, and many more activities throughout the four-hour event.

The light showers scattered throughout the evening failed to deter an enthusiastic and cheerful crowd that came to enjoy the free festivities made possible by many local businesses and organizations.

“Winter Wonderland at the Plaza” displayed the talent of local students with choir performances by the City of Los Alamitos “Ready, Set, Go!” Preschool Program, McGaugh Elementary School, Oak Middle School and McAuliffe Middle School. Santa & Mrs. Claus made a special appearance, arriving in grand style courtesy of Orange County Fire Authority Station No. 2 in Los Alamitos. The festivities concluded with the official tree lighting by Mayor Troy Edgar, Los Alamitos Unified School Board President Meg Cutuli and Josh Wilson representing the Chamber Young Professionals. The Los Alamitos holiday tree will remain lit from dusk to midnight on the corner of Katella Avenue and Florista Street until Christmas.
