Swinging for a cause has never meant more to the future than at The Youth Center’s second annual Golf Tournament held at the Recreation Golf Course in Long Beach recently.
For The Youth Center, the annual Golf Tournament encourages community involvement in the fight to develop meaningful educational programs to serve children year round.
“Our golf tournament is different from most in that we encourage youth to participate,” said Youth Center Board Member Arnie Fine, who is also golf tournament organizer. Participation rose 20 percent this year to 100 total players, including three youth players, surpassing expectations set by the center.
“It is amazing to see how community members have come out to support such an important cause- our future,” said Youth Center volunteer Flow Perry.
The event promised to be more exciting and action packed than the previous year and delivered beyond expectation.
Thanks to returning principal sponsor The Garden’s Casino, 15 hole sponsors and the 30+ volunteers who donated countless hours, this year’s event made good on its promise.
“We are blessed to have The Garden’s Casino return for a second year as presenting sponsor” said Youth Center Director Lina Lumme.
The Gardens Casino General Manager Ron Sarabi said, “We proudly give back to the communities we serve. The Gardens Casino supports the Youth Center’s mission of transforming children’s lives one family at a time, and were honored to be a sponsor of this year’s golf tournament.”
The event raised $18,000 which will help fund The Youth Centers Leadership, after school tutoring and music education programs. Scholarships for children who would like to attend summer camp will also be awarded utilizing the funds raised.
On the course the Sponsors outdid themselves this year. On one hole, players received free massages from Braithwaite Chiropractic.
A heated, yet friendly, battle of the pies between ZPizza and Papa Murphy’s for the title of best pizza on the golf course took place. Golfers raved about the top-notch pizza provided by both sponsors. Beer and refreshments were scattered throughout the course for players to cool-off and enjoy the breathtaking scenic course. Additional sponsors for the tournament include CellMark, YH Advisors, Generations Church, Phillips Steel, The Southland Credit Union, MedPost Urgent Care, Yalla, Ganahl Lumber, Los Alamitos Police Officers Association, Lion’s Club, Elite One Mortgage, and New York Life for giving away cars, expensive toys and precious time in the name of supporting the youth.
Enrollment for 2017’s tournament has been opened due to overwhelming community demand. Reserve your spot today by completing the online form at www.theyouthcenter.org or in person via The Youth Center at 10909 Oak Street in Los Alamitos.
