Brownies visits WE CARE facility

The Girls Scout Brownies of Troop 754 recently took a tour of WE CARE of Los Alamitos. Colleen Lowe, President of the Board at WE CARE took the girls on the tour.  The girls got to see the food pantry and other donations that WE CARE has received to use for their mission.  WE CARE’s mission is to do their best to keep families within the community safely housed, by providing a comprehensive, seamless range of services that begin by preventing homelessness whenever possible.

WE CARE is a non-profit organization that pools the resources of the community to meet the emergency needs of families and individuals such as rental assistance, utility assistance, DMV fees, food, personal care items, clothes and more.

The girls of Troop 754 took this tour as part of earning the “Philanthropist” badge, which includes learning what every person needs, investigating how to help people who are hungry, finding out how to help people who need clothing, knowing how to help in times of emergency and acting like a philanthropist.  And act like philanthropists is exactly what the girls did.

Troop 754 collected food donations for WE CARE’s pantry from their family and friends.  They also collected plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles and used the money from the recycling of these things as a donation for victims of hurricane Sandy.  Brownie Troop 754 learned a lot from earning their philanthropist badge, especially about how to help people in need.  The girls are excited about the possibility of volunteering at WE CARE by helping to sort food after food drives.
