The game was tied 15-15 after the first quarter, but the Patriots went cold in the second quarter as the Matadors outscored them 20-0. Oxford began to chip away in the third quarter and made a push in the fourth. Senior center Ahmed Osman hit a three-pointer with 5:22 left in the fourth that pulled the Patriots to within 49-44 of the Matadors.
But Tran answered with a three-pointer from the top of the key to put Bolsa Grande back up 52-44. Sophomore guard Eric Sohn hit a jump shot to pull Oxford to within 52-46, but Daniel Vega responded with an offensive rebound and score to put Bolsa Grande back up 54-46.
Oxford got an offensive rebound and score from Osman and then two free throws from David Yi to get the Patriots within 54-50, with 1:51 left in the game. But that would be as close as the Patriots would get.
Yi led the Patriots with 17 points, while Osman and Yusef Berhan each added 10. Bolsa Grande improved its record to 7-3 with the win. Mumin Sabha chipped in 8 for the Patriots. Van Hua had 9 points and Lewis Doan added seven for the Matadors.
