Altar Billies bring unique style to Cypress Festival

With a unique blend of country, rockabilly and psychobilly, affectionately referred to as “punktry,” the local Orange County group known as The Altar Billies takes to the main stage at the 2014 Cypress Community Festival on July 26 at 3:45 p.m. at Oak Knoll Park.

The group trio of Michael Strand (guitar, Vocals), Johnny X (upright bass) and Chuck Cummings (drums) has entertained crowds throughout Southern California for the past six years and makes another return engagement to the festival. The group also has performed at the Orange County Fair, Orange Street Fair, Silverado Canyon Concert, the Coach House, The Observatory and Stubrik’s Steakhouse in Fullerton.

Among the singles the group has recorded are “Hold On,” “You Can’t Look Up,” “When You’re Look’n Down," “I’m Still Standing,” and “Titans of Wasatch” (Ballad of the Big Boy).

The festival features a 5/10K walk/run, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, arts & crafts section, Cypress Chamber Business Expo, classic and vintage car show and the big chili and salsa contest. Also included in the day’s fare will be rides for the kids, softball games and a variety of food booths.
