Woman’s Club of Cypress distributes “Kindness Bags” to homebound

Members of the Woman's Club of Cypress distribute "Kindness Bags"

Members of the Woman’s Club of Cypress met outside the Cypress Senior Center in anticipation of delivering Holiday Kindness Bags to twenty-seven homebound seniors in the city of Cypress. Bags filled with items the seniors were hoping for, as well as filled Christmas stockings, made the parking lot look like Santa had indeed made a visit early that morning on Dec. 22.

A “Wish List” had been given to each senior receiving Meals on Wheels, asking them what they needed, or what they would enjoy receiving during the holidays this year. True to this generation of humble seniors, their requests were small – a new trash can for the kitchen, pajamas, a jacket, bedding and other items that many of us take for granted and purchase when needed.

The Kindness Bag Project was created in 2019 as the President’s Project for her term. Unfortunately, when Covid-19 arrived on the scene, fundraising was effected and it was difficul to provide items on the level we did pre-pandemic.

The tenacity of the members of this club prevailed and with some help from our great Chamber of Commerce and other local donors, we were able to put together a holiday of joy for the homebound seniors in Cypress receiving meals on wheels. This grateful generation had smiles on their faces when they opened their doors to find wrapped gifts and shouts of Merry Christmas greeting them like they were family, along with a nutritious meal from Meals on Wheels.

Many thanks to those who have helped us sustain this project.
