They are the all-American girls next door. Seniors Jeneva Crossley, Cristiana Maietta, Courtney Crosby and Justine Wong-Orantes all play for Los Alamitos High School varsity volleyball team, and are looking forward to a great year.

Jeneva Crossley wants a successful season, loves being a part of the team, and loves all the support the team gets from everyone.  She hopes to go to college on a volleyball scholarship, has a 3.5 GPA, and wants to study abroad.  “I love the commitment of being on varsity,” she said. “We practice about 8 hours a week.”  Crossley is best friends with teammate Cristina Maietta, having played in a volleyball club since grade school.

Maietta wants to win CIF this year, and also wants to go to college on a volleyball scholarship. She hopes to major in Business or Psychology.  “I think it would be neat to be a therapist, giving advice and listening to people,” she said.  Maietta, who has a 3.5 GPA, admires her father, who also played sports in high school and college.  “Both my parents are very supportive, and come to all my games,” she continued.  “I’m excited for this coming year, and all our fans and staff at LAHS give us a lot of support.”

Crossley and Maietta have been playing volleyball together with teammate Courtney Crosby since they were 12-years-old, and are good friends with each other, too.  Crosby, who has a 4.1 GPA, plans to play for University of Connecticut, and wants to major in Allied Health Sciences, with dreams of becoming an Occupational Therapist.  She enjoys hanging out with her friends and going to the beach when she’s not studying or playing volleyball.   She also admires her father who comes to all her games if he’s not working.  “He has a really good sense of commitment,” she said.

Teammate Justine Wong-Orantes, who has been offered volleyball scholarships from the University of Nebraska and University of Hawaii, has a 3.8 GPA, and hopes to major in either Math or Psychology.  “I’ve always wanted to be a high school math teacher,” she said.  She also enjoys going to the beach and playing volleyball there, too.  “I hope to play either beach volleyball or indoor volleyball in the Olympics,” she said.

“I admire my mom and dad,” she continued. “My mom taught me all she knows about volleyball.”  Her mom played for Sacramento State University on a scholarship.  “I also admire my dad,” she said.  Her father played volleyball at Long Beach City College and coached there, as well.

All the girls are grateful to all LAHS staff, students and the community for their ongoing support, and are looking forward to an exciting year.
