The Rossmoor Community Services District Board honored Los Alamitos Unified School District’s 2014 Teacher of the Year Justin Padilla at their regular meeting on June 10. President Maynard presented a framed proclamation to him and the RCSD Board congratulated the celebrated educator amid enthusiastic applause.

Padilla is an instrumental music teacher at Oak Middle School. In his nine years as an instructor there he has built the instrumental music program into a comprehensive full-time program that includes jazz bands, concert bands and orchestras. More than 200 students participate in the award winning ensembles at Oak Middle School.

“This is an amazing honor,” stated Justin Padilla with a smile. “I believe in the outstanding and incredible abilities of human beings at all ages—at all levels of life.”

“As a teacher of the arts, it allows me to tap in to that creativity and play into the math skills, science skills and social studies skills of each student,” he said. “The Los Alamitos Unified School District is so supportive of the arts. I am fortunate to have a job that gives back to me, the more that I give,” he said.

Padilla went on to thank the administration, the teachers, the staff, the parents and children at Oak Middle School who create the opportunity and make it a wonderful place to work each day.

The RCSD Board also honored Weaver Elementary and Hopkinson Elementary School earlier in the year. It was a perfect ending to an exceptional school year for Los Alamitos Unified.

RCSD Board Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Rush Park Auditorium, located at 3001 Blume Drive in Rossmoor. To view the agenda, please log on to www.rossmoor-csd.org or email rcsd@rossmoor-csd.org. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
