With 350 guests in attendance, the Kentucky Derby themed event raised $95,000 to benefit 21 local charities and local senior high school girls in need of scholarships in Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Lakewood and Cypress.
The afternoon affair was chaired this year by Cecilia Killeen, Emily Ledterman and Marni Rice and attended by all members of the South Coast Chapter.
The luncheon was also attended by several representatives from local charities and organizations, as well as members of the sustainers groups “Las Campanas,” Las Amigas and NCL Juniors.
Guests enjoyed the black and white unified color theme while beautiful red roses, the famous flower of the Kentucky Derby, added a gorgeous touch to the festivities. During the social hour, guests placed bids on silent auction items, sipped champagne while mulling over the Opportunity Room and enjoyed the festivities with friends and family.
This year, the Tournament Day Chairs introduced The Giving Tree, allowing guests to donate specific dollars to various charities of their choice. This raised over $2,500 for those partners and was a wonderful success.
The luncheon followed the social hour in the grand ballroom, starting the fun off with the harmonious sounds of The Four Parts Barbershop Quartet. Meals were served while welcome messages were delivered, drawings were held and more money was raised by the live auction and paddle raise. The eight live auction items got hearts racing and emotions soaring. Lovely ladies raised paddles and competed to win the likes of a flight to Catalina, a two-night stay at the magnificent Montage Resort and Spa, and a social membership at Old Ranch Country Club. Chapter President Dee Ann Bahadursingh stated, “We unite together today to celebrate our organization and champion our commitment to leadership development, community service, and cultural experiences. National Charity League, Inc. South Coast Chapter strives to develop strong women who are leaders serving and impacting the community for generations to come.”
