The Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary hosted the District Attorney of Orange County, Tony Rackauckas as the guest speaker at its regular meeting at Griffins Grill in December.
Rackauckas talked about the success of the District Attorney’s office, the number of cases prosecuted, and the strong law enforcement presence in Orange County. Currently, Rackauckas is serving his fifth term as the District Attorney and was a former Superior Court Judge.

During this same meeting, one of the Rotary’s new members, Tom Lent, gave a “craft talk” as an introduction to the other members.
Tom Lent works for Southland Credit Union and began serving as President/CEO on Jan. 3, 2017. He was raised in Long Beach and found success in athletics, mainly football, and majored in Business at California State University, Long Beach. A career in banking followed college, which led him to his current career at Southland Credit Union. He is married to DeAnn, they have six children who all attended Los Alamitos schools, four have graduated from college, one is a senior at LAHS, and one is in middle school.
Lent enjoys golf, time with his family, and involvement in community activities where Southland has become an incredible asset for the many community-based organizations in the area.
The guest speaker at the November Rotary meeting was the Los Alamitos Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Sherry Kropp. Sherry presented highlights of the District, shared student successes, and talked about future goals. Kropp has been with Los Alamitos Unified since 1985 and has served as the Superintendent for six years.
During this same meeting, new member, Matt Herrick, gave a craft talk. Mr. Herrick is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Southland Credit Union and the owner of Griffins Grill. Griffins Grill is Matt’s third restaurant, and coupled with his employment at Southland, ensures that he is busy working and immersing himself in numerous community activities. Matt said that joining Rotary provided an opportunity to give back to the community that has afforded him such opportunities and success. Matt lives in the community, has a baby girl and a son who attends Los Alamitos schools.
