On Thursday, April 10, Precious Life Shelter was honored by the City of Los Alamitos, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Commission, and CPRS District 10. The California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) District 10 regularly hosts an awards and installation banquet each spring.
The awards program is designed to recognize and honor those individuals and organizations who have contributed to the recreation profession and the quality of life within CPRS District 10, whose boundaries include portions of Los Angeles and all of Orange County.
Each year the City of Los Alamitos nominates an individual and/or an organization to receive the Volunteer Merit Award at the CPRS District 10 Awards and Installation Banquet. One of this year’s recipients was Precious Life Shelter.
Precious Life Shelter is an emergency, transitional, and single parent efficiency program providing a safe environment for the pregnant woman with no place to live. Opened in the City of Los Alamitos in 1989, Precious Life Shelter, Inc. is a private, non-profit, non-denominational 501(c)3 California Corporation with a local volunteer Board of Directors and over 200 volunteers in staffing and services.
Led by Executive Director Theresa Murphy, it provides essential services to the Los Alamitos and surrounding communities by offering an emergency program, transitional housing and single parent efficiency program to homeless, pregnant women regardless of race, creed, financial or marital status.
Additionally, the organization operates a licensed Infant Care Center for working/parenting women in the program, provides permanent housing apartments for graduates of the programs, and runs a successful Thrift & Gift Shop, with proceeds helping to offset 40% of operating costs. The City of Los Alamitos is proud to recognize Precious Life Shelter for its continued contributions to the community and strong partnership with the City.
