Los Coyotes named to national Blue Ribbon Schools

New guidance could lead to a return to full time instruction.

The Centralia Elementary School District is honored to announce that Los Coyotes Elementary School has been nominated by California to join the esteemed community of National Blue Ribbon Schools.

National Blue Ribbons Schools are public and non-public K-12 schools that have demonstrated consistent excellence and progress in closing student achievement gaps. The National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition program is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s effort to identify effective school leadership and promising instructional practices.

Dr. Vicki Wong, Los Coyotes Principal stated “it is indeed a high honor to be the principal of Los Coyotes, a deserving recipient of a nomination for the National Blue Ribbon School Award. The true recognition and spotlight belong to the teachers, staff, families, and community for laying the foundation for our students to excel in academics. Their long-standing and unwavering dedication to excellence in education is now being recognized.”
Los Coyotes was nominated as an Exemplary High Performing School. Schools are nominated only once within a five-year period. Receiving this nomination acknowledges and validates the hard work of our students, educators, families, and community members in striving for and attaining exemplary achievement. The entire selection process from nomination to selection takes about a year. If Los Coyotes Elementary School is selected to be a National Blue Ribbon School, it will serve as a model of effective school practices for state and district educators throughout the nation. Once a school achieves this status it forever remains a National Blue Ribbon School.

Dr. Kristine Cvar, Assistant Superintendent, Education Services shared “I am so proud of the students, teachers, and Principal Dr. Wong for being nominated for the National Blue Ribbon School program. This nomination is a fine testament to the relentless commitment, exemplary work and community collaboration in ensuring that their students are future ready and prepared for their next level of learning.” The entire Centralia Elementary School District community is proud of this special nomination and looks forward to having the application process validate Los Coyotes Elementary School as a National Blue Ribbon School.

Centralia School District was established in 1875 and today, the district’s eight high performing elementary schools are in the cities of Buena Park, Anaheim and La Palma, serving approximately 4,100 students.
