Los Alamitos held a lead in the third quarter, but could not hold off Charter Oak. The Chargers scored the final 13 points to rally for a 22-14 win over the Griffins on Friday night at Long Beach Veteran Stadium.

It was the home opener for the Griffins who fell to 1-1 on the season. The Griffins were without starting running back Ricardo Molina, who suffered a sprained ankle in the season opener against Paramount.

The Griffins were led by senior quarterback Cody Marshall, who passed for 128 yards and a touchdown, and running back Kendall Brownlow, who broke free for a 47 yard touchdown to give the Griffins an early 7-3 lead. After falling behind 9-7, Marshall would connect with Dashawn Gordon on a 29-yard touchdown pass to give the Griffins the lead again, 14-9. Luke Pastell had 78 receiving yards for the Griffins.

But that would be the last lead for the Griffins, as Charter Oak would score the final two touchdowns of the game. The Griffins had trouble slowing down the Charger ground game as running back Donavin Washington would run for 274 yards on the night.

The Griffins will remain at home to take on University High of Los Angeles on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Veteran Stadium.
