Los Al club wins invitational tourney
The FC Premier Los Alamitos Girls 2004 team won the FC Premier Invitational recently.
The team stayed atop their group with a record of 2 wins and 1 tie and played in the final against Westside Breakers.
The final was a close match and extra time was needed to determine the winner.
Isabella Reynoso made the winning shot off a rebound save from the goalie. Reynoso gambled, stuck with the play, and gained a wonderful goal to break the deadlock and hand her team the tournament trophy.
Pacific Soccer Club Team wins LA Galaxy Tournament
AYSO Region 159 Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Pacific Soccer Club Boys 2004 team won the inaugural LA Galaxy Cup tournament from August 13-14.
After a difficult run through pool play the team swept the semifinals and finals winning both games 3-0 with a victory over the tournament’s host club LA Galaxy Navy team in the final game.
Seal Beach Crafts Fair is next weekend
The Annual Seal Beach Arts & Crafts Faire, which has been taken over by the Seal Beach Lions will occur this year on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Eisenhower Park.
What many Seal Beachers may not know is that this event, started by business person Belinda of the former “Art on Glass,” has been one of the early launch shows of the arts & crafts show season for decades. She and a group of volunteers had run this event for some time, but due to her move away and other issues, she has to transfer it.

Los Al High grad competes in Rio
Rachel Fattal came to love water when she was just 3 months old, according to her mom. As she grew up, the Seal Beach native competed in three sports: swimming (obviously), volleyball and water polo.
Now she’s an Olympian.
Los Al probes for options on race track intiative
The Cypress Town Center and Commons ballot measure slated for the November 8 election in Cypress will be discussed in detail at Los Al City Council’s next meeting on August 15.
Los Al Council’s first round of discussions on the ballot measure at their meeting in July resulted in the search for options that the city has for the proposed measure.
Since that meeting a couple of things have happened.
The measure was recently approved by the Orange County District of Voters for receiving the necessary amount of signatures for the November 8 ballot.
La Palma street projects keep residents on the move
Over the last two months, several capital street projects have begun.
The Valley View and Fresca Streets rehabilitation project along with the Americans with Disabilities pedestrian ramp replacement project, to meet required updated federal standards, which have changed since the ramps were installed, are nearing completion.
Both of these projects are largely funded by federal grants, which allows the City to stretch its Capital Improvement Program dollars.

Siblings make a splash at Junior Olympics
The children of two Los Alamitos natives have turned out to be forces to be reckoned with when it comes to water polo.
The Rozolis-Hill siblings brought home gold, silver, and bronze medals home from the 2016 USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics that were held at Stanford University from July 23-31.
James Rozolis-Hill plays for Vanguard Aquatics out of Huntington Beach. In the tournament first session, James’ 12U boys team won the championship from a field of 48 teams. His performance in the competition earned him the title of MVP.
Girls water polo team takes home the gold
The Under-12 Girls team from the Huntington Beach Water Polo Club was crowned as the national champions at this year’s Junior Olympic tournament.
A look at retired Brig. Gen. Hardins’ time with the Army Reserve
Brig. Gen. Kurt Hardin. U.S. Army Reserve General Officer was recently honored for decades of service during a retirement ceremony held at the 79th Sustainment Support Command headquarters on the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos last Saturday, August 6. The honored retiree formerly served as the deputy commanding general of the 79th SSC. Maj. Gen. Mark Palzer, who’s the commanding general of the 79th SSC, hosted the ceremony. Attendees included more than 100 soldiers of the 79thth SSC, active and retired general officers, as well as local and state representatives.
OCDA seeks public’s help in identifying victims
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a former teacher and Jehovah’s Witness elder charged with sexually assaulting a teenage boy from his congregation. Jason Morris Gorski, 43, Fort Mill, South Carolina, was charged on Aug. 3, 2016, with four felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 with a sentencing enhancement for substantial sexual conduct with a child. If convicted, Gorski faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration.

New Los Al football coach introduces his philosophy to the community
Ray Fenton has certainly proven to be an effective football coach on the field. He led Cypress to a CIF championship and has built and revived other programs in recent years. Yet, despite having a solid year at Fountain Valley last year, Fenton jumped to Los Alamitos High to replace legendary coach John Barnes.

Los Al seeking to relocate city hall
Los Alamitos is currently looking at various options to relocate its city hall, and the rest of the current civic center, to.
The Joint Forces Training Base is one that is being aggressively sought by the city. However, the process to do so would be lengthy and would take no less than two years if everything goes right.
“I do need you to be prepared for a long process,” said Cheryl Connet during a presentation at the Los Al City Council meeting on July 18. Connet is the Chief of the Asset Management Division for the U.S. Army and the National Guard.
Seal Beach Council votes against LA Fitness permit
Following hours of testimony before a packed chamber, the Seal Beach City Council recently voted against the construction of an LA Fitness club in a local shopping center.
Representatives of the Rossmoor Park homeowners’ association had asked the council to reconsider the Planning Commission’s recent vote to grant a permit to allow the construction of a proposed 37,000-square-foot health club in the Shops at Rossmoor (which is in Seal Beach).
Young Engineers non-profit leads successful summer program
Twenty-eight 1st to 7th grade students gathered at the Lucerne Valley Rocket Launch site on Saturday, July 30 to launch their rockets and celebrated their completion of a summer STEM camp organized by Young Engineers in Action (YEA), a budding non-profit organization.
The six-week summer camp was held every Saturday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., from June 18 to July 30, with its curriculum entirely composed and taught by high school volunteers from some of the top schools in Southern California.
