Emily Hibard, a Los Alamitos resident and local businesswoman, has announced her candidacy for California State Assembly District 70. Many Californians have a hard time trusting their political leaders. Emily Hibard is a community activist on a mission to mend the relationship between citizens and politicians, so trust is restored, and power is returned to the people.
Hibard grew up in the East Los Angeles suburb of Downey, and her family has been manufacturing paper goods in Los Angeles for over seventy years. Her grandfather, a U.S. Marine, married her grandmother, a Mexican immigrant, and, together, started the family business in pursuit of the American dream.
As a member of the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA), Emily has first-hand experience dealing with the crippling regulations and outlandish high taxes associated with running a California-based business. Emily knows what is necessary for California companies to thrive and provide good jobs for everyone.
Emily has a master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Azusa Pacific University. In addition, she studied Modern Political Thought at the University of Oxford (St. Edmund Hall).
Nine years ago, Emily started a nonprofit recording studio, and teaches artists and musicians about the business side of the music industry. She is a member of the Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter (Grammys), and participates in District Advocacy Day, the largest nationwide day of advocacy for music and its makers.
Emily is the author of three nonprofit books, she helps people start their own nonprofits, and consults with existing organizations to ensure their programs are efficient and effective.
When Emily was 23 years old, she witnessed human trafficking and sexual exploitation while backpacking in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. “I had barely graduated from college. What I saw in Southeast Asia seared my heart in a way I’ll never forget and never be able to fully explain,” she says. After returning to Los Angeles, she partnered with nonprofits, service providers and law enforcement to advocate for victims of sexual exploitation throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and Las Vegas.
Emily has served on the Los Alamitos Cable Television Commission, the Studio City Neighborhood Council, and believes in the Constitution, freedom of opportunity, school choice, legal immigration, and parental rights. She opposes defunding the police, and the encroachment of an individual’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The newly drawn 70th Assembly District includes the north Orange County cities of Rossmoor, Los Alamitos, Stanton, Garden Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley, and portions of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Midway City, and Santa Ana.
