Griffins put pressure on Barons

The Los Alamitos High girls soccer team defeated Fountain Valley, 2-0 in a Sunset League game on Thursday at Fountain Valley High.

The Los Alamitos High girls soccer team defeated Fountain Valley, 2-0 in a Sunset League game on Thursday at Fountain Valley High.

The Griffins had goals from Meghan Randig and Raya Young, while goalie Savannah Sickler was credited with two saves. Sarah Sanger had an assist. The Griffin offense kept the pressure on the Fountain Valley defense as their goalies combined to make 14 saves to keep the game from getting out of hand.

The Griffins improved to 2-0 in league play and were set to play at Huntington Beach on Tuesday. Los Alamitos will host Newport Harbor on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Laurel High School.

 

Griffins roll Barons

The Los Alamitos High girls basketball team cruised past Fountain Valley, 70-47 in a Sunset League game on Thursday at Fountain Valley.

The Griffins were led by Neah Odom with 29 points, while Katelyn McCutchen and Erika Nilsen added 12 each. Odom also had 11 rebounds.

The Griffins improved to 2-1 in league play and rebounded from a 53-49 loss to Edison earlier in the week. In that game Odom had 17 points and nine rebounds and Dani Iwami added nine points. Bayley Hagino had eight points.

The Griffins will host Newport Harbor on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a Sunset League game.

 

Griffins falter in third

The Los Alamitos High boys basketball team came out slow in the third quarter and wound up losing to Fountain Valley, 59-47 in a Sunset League game on Friday at Fountain Valley.

The Barons led 22-21 at halftime, but outscored the Griffins 21-14 in the third quarter to take control of the game. Wes Mitter led the Griffins with 16 points and Khalid Washington added 14. James Noble chipped in eight points for the Griffins.

The Griffins fell to 1-2 in league play and will try to rebound with a home game against Huntington Beach today at 7 p.m. They will play at Newport Harbor on Friday at 7 p.m.
