The Los Alamitos High football team opens up the season with a lot of changes to its starting lineup. Head coach John Barnes (34th year) remains one constant and the winningest coach in Orange County history stands just five wins shy of 300 for his career.

Last year, the Griffins were 6-4 and 2-3 in the Sunset League, missing the playoffs. Quarterback Cody Marshall is set to take over the starting duties after the graduation of Dylan LaGarde. The Griffins will also be looking at a new group of receivers and their starting running back, as all of those positions were also hit hard by graduation.

However, the Griffins will have some stability on the line as several starters return, including six-foot-five, Alex Redmond, who has already committed to the Oregon. Other key returners on the line will include seniors Garrett King, Erik Roudybush and Dan Alanouf.

At wideout, the Griffins will look to players such as senior Luke Pastell and newcomer Josh Davis to fill the void left by several graduations at the position. Likewise, senior Richie Molina takes over at running back to replace Cody Paul.

As on the offensive line, the defense returns three key starters in seniors Dan Szechy, Trevor Brand and junior Mike Hayden. Junior Sam Corder-Lee and senior James Stea return to help secure the secondary. The Griffins open the season on Friday at Paramount at 7 p.m. After that they have six consecutive home games. The Sunset League has been moved to the Southwest Division this year.
