Giving books a new adventure

Lisa Thompson, a member of the Cypress Girl Scout Troop 2292 will be doing her Gold Award project for the highest Girl Scout achievement on “Give Your Book A New Adventure” for libraries to dispose of unused books from their collection and keep them out of landfills.

Working with Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona (MLGSCA) and Better World Books, Lisa contacted medical and public libraries to inform them about Better World Books’ Library Discard & Donation Program.  This program will help libraries decrease their unused surplus book inventory while increasing their funding for new books.

Better World Books provides a free outlet to libraries for their surplus books. Better World Books will sell, donate, or recycle unused books. When books are sold, Better World Books will forward a portion of the proceeds back to the libraries to help them buy new books.

Cypress Public Library does accept book donations and receipts are available.  The library is located at 5331 Orange Avenue in Cypress.

The project goal is all about helping the world become a better place by saving one book at a time.
