Dr. Gregg Stone returns as principal of Los Alamitos High

Dr. Gregg Stone, a former Los Alamitos High School principal who retired a year ago, is now back on the job after the unexpected resignation of Mr. Chris Vlasic.

Vlasic, who assumed the post with some fanfare a year ago, has accepted a full time ministry position with Calvary Chapel Westgrove, according to the Los Alamitos Unified School System.

“While this has been a difficult decision for Mr. Vlasic to leave the field of education, he looks forward to serving others through full time ministry,” according to Dr. Andrew Pulver, Supt.

Pulver acknowledged that they administration was not expecting Vlasic’s resignation.

Vlasic’s opportunity “came unexpectedly,” said Pulver in a letter to the Los Al community. The superintendent nonetheless thanked Vlasic for his “excellent service” to the district.

“We will miss him but wish him the very best as he embarks on this new venture,” added Pulver.

The Board of Education approved a contract for Stone this week, noting that he will serve as “interim” principal, but it could last for the current school year.

“We are beyond thrilled and fortunate to announce that Dr. Gregg Stone will be coming out of his recent retirement to serve as the Interim Principal of Los Alamitos High School,” said Pulver.

Stone spent 21 years as a Griffin assistant and principal at Los Al High School.

“His leadership and connections to the Griffin community are unparalleled. We are fortunate he will be back at the helm.”

Stone has served as interim principal since August 3 and officially ratified by the board on Tuesday.
