Cypress All-Stars take third in Nationals

The Cypress 10U Blue (Gold) All Stars battled their way to Nationals in a summer of strong softball play.

The Cypress 10U Blue (Gold) All Stars battled their way to Nationals in a summer of strong softball play.

They entered into several tournaments in preparation for districts. The team took second place at Orange Canyon’s Memorial Day Tournament and first place at Laguna Niguel’s Sea Country Classic. They finished in the semifinals at three other tournaments before entering into the battle in Fountain Valley at the Central “B” Districts.

In a come from behind win in the last inning, they were victorious against nemesis Los Alamitos, winning 5-4, and going undefeated, to become the Central “B” District champions. They made their way to State in Lancaster on July 6. After a tough weekend battling teams, as well as the heat, they finished fourth in a tough loss to Corona. Being one of the remaining 12 teams, they qualified for Nationals in Spokane, Washington in early August.

With some driving and some flying, they made the 1,200-mile trek and battled their way to again face Los Alamitos in a tough rematch. With Los Alamitos coming from behind to tie it in the 7th inning, the game went into extra innings. After nine long innings, Cypress was again victorious, winning 7-4. In an exciting semifinal game against Thousand Oaks, Cypress took an early lead. Thousand Oaks came battling back and was victorious, with Cypress finishing the Nationals tournament in third place.
