The Cypress Region 154 Girls under 10 All Star team reached the championship game of the Cerritos Turkey Tournament before falling to Burbank and taking 2nd place.

The championship game went down to a penalty-kick shootout, which ended in a 4-3 loss for Cypress. Despite the loss, the tournament run proved to be a remarkable end to an exciting competition. Out of 24 teams, Cypress reached the finals with only two practices and one scrimmage before the tournament.

“Our girls played with guts and heart.” coach Ed Ebel said.

Coach Ebel gave all the credit to his players, which he dubbed the “magnificent ten”. Captains Lilly Roberts and LaNell Swain played every minute of every game and were the backbone of the team. Natalie Repetti and Kailey Marcroft shared duties in the goal and played on the field, showing their versatility, with each scoring a goal in the tournament.

Halle Carniglia, Nancy Moreno, Sophia Schindler, and Blythe Gilbert (a.k.a. “Bullet”) were sharing the offensive striker positions, all making goals in the tournament.

“The defensive right fullbacks, Kate Alcaino and Jenna Sharp shared a key position for advancing the team forward throughout the tournament,” Ebel said.

The magnificent ten All Stars will be representing Region 154 Cypress GU10 in January at Los Alamitos.
