Beach lovers – are you ready for some good news? As required by the permit with The California Coastal Commission, no work on Sunset Beach’s sanitation project can be done between Memorial Day and Labor Day so the area will be covered and cleaned for Summer. Work will resume in early September and is expected to be completed in November. This includes restoring the Greenbelt Park to its original condition, replacing trees, sprinklers and sidewalks as well as the playground.

The project is approximately 2/3 complete. In addition, the parking lot area near Warner at Jack-in-the-Box has been base paved and is open for public parking. This week will include continued installation of pipe in open cut trenches, as well as the preparation of the area and traffic control for the upcoming Sunset Beach Art Festival being held this weekend. The Art Festival is expected to be extended from 10th Street to 19th Street with Broadways closed to traffic to allow safe pedestrian crossing during the festival.

To date, the contractor has installed 1,025’ of pipe in open trench and 960’ of pipe in micro-tunnelling in a few manholes.
