Though the threat of rain may have kept some away, more than 5,000 people turned out as spectators and participants for the 39th annual Los Alamitos Race on the Base, according to Los Alamitos Recreation Manager Emeline Noda.
The race had 2,867 registered participants and approximately 2,000 spectators, she said. Due to anticipated rain, the crowds seemed a little bit lighter this year, yet overall, the race marked yet another successful year.
Also, many participants enjoyed the opportunity to run and bike on an active military runway as the community turned out to enjoy the festivities.
The Friday night events also had great energy with the Jr. Reverse Triathlon and the Southland Credit Union Glow in the Dark Donut Run.
The City of Los Alamitos thanked the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base for hosting the event at their facility and thanked all of the sponsors, volunteers, vendors and participants for coming and making it a great annual community event. It encourages healthy lifestyles for all ages and abilities, she said.
