Huntington Beach small business owner Travis Allen and Los Alamitos Mayor Troy Edgar have continued the war of words and allegations in the final week of their campaigns for the 72nd Assembly District.
Allen has recently announced more endorsements, including the support of another primary election opponent. Albert Ayala, a retired war veteran had joined the other June Primary election candidates in the 72nd race, who have now publically supported Allen.
Also joining the Allen side is Former California Republican Party Chairman, Mike Schroeder, who recently stated his support for Allen, in a statement released by the Allen campaign.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw my endorsement of Troy Edgar and to endorse Travis Allen,” Schroeder said in the statement. ” During this time, I have come to know Travis Allen and believe he would best represent us and best protect the taxpayers from the predators of our Democratic legislature.”
According to the release, Schroeder cited three reasons for switching his support from Edgar to Allen. He noted the fact that Edgar has not signed a no new tax pledge, Edgar’s support of Measure DD in Los Alamitos, which has been criticized as a tax increase, and Edgar’s alleged misappropriation of campaign funds in paying for campaign circulars.
“I was a bit surprised by the news – especially since I never knew Schroeder had endorsed me. If he had, it was one of the best kept secrets in Orange County politics,” said Edgar. Edgar continued his sarcastic response. ” I guess the next ‘breaking news’ from the Allen campaign will be the complete listing of everyone who has ‘unfriended’ me in this campaign on Facebook, which then will be followed by the announcement that I have been placed on double-secret probation,” added Edgar.
