Cypress Councilwoman Mariellen Yarc was recognized for community service by Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva at the “Women of Distinction” recognition ceremony on March 23 at Cypress College. The ceremony identified exceptional women from the 65th Assembly District as part of Women’s History Month.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” said Yarc. “I accept this award on behalf of all the women in our community who dedicate their time and tireless efforts in service of others and making a difference.” “Today we celebrate the women of past and present, and the contributions of our gender that make this world a better place.”

Yarc was elected to the Cypress City Council in 2012, and is currently serving her first term.  She is an active member of the Woman’s Club of Cypress and the Cypress Chamber of Commerce.  Additionally, she has volunteered her time to various charities and was formerly commissioner for both the Cypress Parks & Recreation Commission and the Senior Citizens Commission.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California Los Angeles, and also has a juris doctorate degree from Southwestern University of Law.  She is a partner of Brandon & Yarc, LLP and a certified family law specialist, practicing family law at her office in downtown Long Beach.
