A huge billboard seen on Pacific Coast Highway between two kayak businesses is no longer there and people who have looked at it for 15 years can’t help but notice. It has advertised casinos, car dealers, churches, amusements and just about everything under the sun.
The billboard lease recently expired after a 15-year contract, according to the Southern California MLS (Multiple Listing Service), and the 39’ X 65’ bayfront parcel sits empty to the delight of some who stared at it from their homes.
Mike Van Voorhis, who lives on the cul-de-sac next to the land said: “I’m happy the sign was deleted as PCH is a designated State Highway and I considered that billboard an eye soar.”
Owner of Pocket Burger Shack, Daniel Preszler, said he’ll miss the sounds of the osprey that sat on the sign. “I enjoyed seeing the large and quite vocal birds nesting on the sign frame. Our local wildlife is shrinking as we also lost nests on the Green Belt behind our restaurant and the beach.”
What’s next? The MLS listing states that it would be perfect for development use.
