Dear Editor,
First and foremost, I would like to thank the LOS ALAMITOS TEACHERS for working so hard for the children. I would like to also thank the BOARD OF EDUCATION for their committed focus on excellence in education. Finally, I would like to thank the STAFF at all the Los Alamitos schools for continuing superb performance at every level.
I have been a member of this community for over 45 years. I am a grandmother of two girls attending Hopkinson Elementary, where I volunteer in the classroom each week. I am a mother to three children who went to Los Alamitos Elementary, McAuliffe Middle School, and Los Alamitos High School. I taught for 40 years, including Los Alamitos Elementary and Laurel Continuation High School. Unlike some of the previous letters to the editor, I see only excellence in what is being taught and what is being absorbed by students. I see students engaged, discussing, and thinking critically about information. The students are interested and happy.
As I saw my own children go on to prestigious universities and become excellent citizens and wonderful workers, I know that my grandchildren will follow in their footsteps. Los Alamitos is a great place for children to start the process toward higher education. For any parent questioning the quality of Los Alamitos, I can assure you that it continues to be the best.
For the Los Al, Seal Beach, Cypress communities, I ask that you keep politics out of the schools. Children should have a safe, nurturing environment, where the outside world can melt away, and they fold into the classroom spirit of learning and enjoyment. They have a whole lifetime ahead to worry about the state-of-affairs of the United States. When they get to high school, they can learn in a rich, rewarding setting about our history and government and evaluate what they hear and see on their own. We want our children to be critical thinkers and create their own opinions of the world around them.
Again, it should go without saying that anyone in our education system has had to go above and beyond these past few years. Educators have had to pivot, reinvent, and try to stay healthy while doing their jobs. Our teachers have kept our children working hard toward a bright future—at times, at the expense of their own families and friends. For that, they are owed so much gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
