Cypress Mayor Pro Tem Rob Johnson and City Council member Mariellen Yarc had the exciting opportunity to get a close up view of Cypress resident and Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome at Cypress’ Los Alamitos Race Course recently. Johnson and Yarc also had the pleasure of meeting co-owner Steven Coburn and trainer Art Sherman.
California Chrome, who was bred in California and trained at Cypress’ Los Alamitos Race Course, was cheered by the crowd upon his return to the race course.

“It was such a thrill to meet the trainer and owner of such a magnificent horse. They were so friendly, and just beamed about how blessed they’ve been with California Chrome. Then we got to actually meet the horse – what a beauty! Spirited guy – ate the treat ride out of my hand and nuzzled me for more,” said Yarc.
