Ten football linemen from the Kennedy High School football team competed on Saturday, June 6, in the 2nd Annual Jesse Sapolu Super Linemen Tournament at Jim Scott Stadium in Costa Mesa.  The event was free to high school linemen thanks to the Sapolu Youth Foundation in partnership with sponsors such as the NFL, the City of Costa Mesa and Chick Fil A. The student-athletes from Kennedy made a great showing against teams from Ocean View, Troy, Orange and Mission Hills as well as a renegade team which is made up of top linemen that participated in the camp on their own, not with a team. Several students came from Samoa to participate in this event.  Kennedy’s own coach Derrick Deese, who played with Jesse Sapolu on the San Francisco 49ers, where they won a Super Bowl together,  also participated as a judge in the competition, along with other former NFL players. The special guest speaker at the event was Mike Iupati of the Arizona Cardinals.
