The Jazz program at Los Alamitos High School presents its annual “Spotlight, The Next Generation of Jazz”, featuring the LAHS, McAuliffe and Oak Jazz bands Tuesday, March 30 at 7 p.m., according to spokesperson Paurvi Trivedi.

The televised event will also feature special guests, Aubrey Logan on vocals and trombone, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown on saxophone and Katisse Buckingham on flute, she said.
“These talented musicians will collaborate with each of the high school Jazz Bands during a hand-crafted virtual concert that is sure to inspire both student musicians and audience alike,” she said.

According to Trivedi, “our community will have the opportunity to enjoy the best of ‘The Next Generation of Jazz’ and our students will get to connect with professionals who have taken their classroom musical experience into the real world.”
Proceeds from this concert benefit the jazz programs. She said the COVID-19 Pandemic essentially silenced the district’s jazz program one day prior to our last scheduled Spotlight in March 2020.

“More than ever, our young artists need the joy of musical creation, collaboration and performance,” she said.

The event proceeds will allow the program to re-think and re-build within their current realities to continue to shine the spotlight on their passion, talent and tenacity, said Trivedi in a press release.

Funding supports this jazz endeavor, spring jazz activities and clinics from local, professional musicians. The ticket link will be provided upon registration at https://lahsjazzorchestra.anywhereseat.com.

She said sponsorships are available for this event, including sponsoring a guest artist.

“When you sponsor a guest artist, you are sponsoring one of our eminent visiting artists to perform at the Spotlight concert. Three guest artist sponsorships are available for Spotlight 2021,” she said.
