Four daytime residential burglaries have occurred in the last two weeks in the Greenbrook neighborhood located northwest of the intersection of Cerritos Avenue and Bloomfield Street.  Each occurred between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In all four cases, the suspect(s) entered the victims’ residences from the backyards through unlocked side gates.

In an effort to address concerns, the Los Alamitos Police Department is hosting a Town Hall meeting on Friday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Los Alamitos City Council Chambers.  Although the focus of the meeting will be on the city’s northern neighborhoods including Greenbrook, Woodcrest and College Park North, all members of the public are invited.

One of these recent burglaries occurred on Jan. 3, and the other three occurred in close proximity of each other on Jan. 13.  In the first case, the suspect(s) entered the home through a partially ajar window after cutting the screen. In the other three cases, rear sliding glass doors were shattered. All the homes were ransacked and property was taken.

Typically in residential burglaries, we see that the suspects take small items such as jewelry, cash, and electronics.  Additionally, the suspects generally spend the majority of their time in home offices and master bedrooms.

Crimes of this nature can be deterred by utilizing security measures such as motion sensor lights, surveillance video cameras, monitored audible alarm systems, and large dogs.  However, as in these recent crimes, the homes were secured but were forcibly entered. Your neighbors can also be effective deterrents by reporting unusual people or vehicles to the police.

The Los Alamitos Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying possible suspects or leads. Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity or has information about any of these crimes is encouraged to contact Detective Kendra Gora at 562-431-2255, extension 406.

Anonymous tips may be directly submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at www.occrimestoppers.org or 1-855-TIP-OCCS.  Orange County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.

The Los Alamitos Police Department is advising residents to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity, and “If You See Something, Say Something.”  The Los Alamitos Police Department may be reached at 562-594-7232 for non-emergencies, and 9-1-1 for emergencies.
