The Woman’s Club of Cypress is leading a project to help local, homebound senior citizens as well as the elderly in Cypress who are unable to leave their homes due to the stay-at-home order.
The club membership is more than 80 Cypress residents, mostly senior citizens, who are self-isolating, but working hard from home to help others in the community who need assistance.
Currently, there are 43 Cypress residents receiving daily or weekly meal deliveries who need help from Cypress residents and businesses. These 43 people are unable to leave their homes and are dependent on the generosity of volunteers and donors for their survival.
Club members are assembling Kindness Bags to be delivered monthly through the Meals on Wheels program. Members have donated packages of toilet paper, soaps, shampoos, and other toiletries, with the items wrapped in a trash bag that the recipient can reuse in their home.
Currently, club members are collecting packages of individually-wrapped paper towels, sanitizer, sanitizer wipes, toiletries, and more. Costco in Cypress donated toilet paper, and Golden Outlook Insurance Services donated small sanitizers, fans, adult coloring books, and stress balls to add to club member donations.
The goal is to pack 50 bags each month, which includes a few extra bags for new people who may be added to the delivery list in the near future.
