Golfers gear up and prepare to take to the green in the Youth Center’s Golf Tournament. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at the Seal Beach Navy Golf Course in Cypress, and offers golfers the ability to play alongside their child, grandchild or a sponsored child.

Score a hole in one for kids and play with them in the Youth Center’s Golf Tournament to be held on Wednesday, July 15 with a shot-gun start at 1 p.m. in the all-day event at the Seal Beach Navy Golf Course in Cypress. It’s different from most other charity fundraisers in that children ages 9 to 19 years old are being encouraged to play this year alongside adults.

“We are looking forward to having a golf tournament that can be enjoyed by dads, grandfathers, moms, and grandmothers playing alongside their children or possibly their grandchildren,” said Youth Center board member Arnie Fine who is coordinating this year’s event. “We are offering a unique experience and want everyone to have a wonderful time.”

Funds from this year’s event go to support the Youth Center in Los Alamitos, a nationally top-rated non-profit for the last three years in a row. It will support their After School Program and learning center, music program, summer day and teen camps, and their high school drunk driving determent program Every 15 Minutes.

The organization awards scholarships based on financial need, and is not funded with any federal or state funding.  Annually they reach out for the community support.
“We want to bring this fun and unique day of golf to our community. Join us on July 15 to support local children by playing in our Golf Tournament or sponsoring a youth golfer. This new annual fundraising event will sure be a fun one for the entire family”, said Lina Lumme, Youth Center executive director.

One such community sponsor is Hawaiian Gardens Casino who signed up at the gold level for $3,000, leaving the Youth Center’s Golf Tournament with a platinum sponsorship for $5,000, a silver sponsorship for $2,000, and a bronze sponsorship for $1,000 open. These sponsorships include playing in the golf tournament and include dinner. The gold, platinum, and silver sponsorships include tee/green advertisement.  Other opportunities sponsorship opportunities are for a hole at $250 which includes dinner, and for a youth player at $100.

Different for this year’s tournament will be a drone helicopter golf ball drop above a designated hole with the ball closest to it being the winner.  Players can purchase any number of balls which will have numbers on them associated to their name. “This will be a monetary prize and the amount is based on a portion of the number of balls we are successful in selling,” said Fine. “The more balls we sell the larger the sum of money to be distributed.”

There will also be prizes awarded in contests including for a hole in one, closest to the pin, the longest drive male and female, for putting, high and low team scores. Prizes for winners vary from a trophy, gift certificates or possibly golf equipment.  Some other prizes awarded for a live auction featured include Old Ranch Country Club social membership for one year that allows for entry into their fitness center, dining room privileges, pool access and four rounds of golf on their grounds in Seal Beach.

Other prizes include a two-night, three day stay at the Marriot Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert with a round of golf for two players.

A couple of safari vacation packages have also been donated as prizes as well, and there will be a raffle for gift baskets at a dinner at the end of the all-day golf tournament.

During the day players will enjoy a box lunch which includes a deli-style sandwich, bottled water, fruit, chips and cookie. Later on they will dine on a buffet dinner which includes a tossed Caesar salad, fresh fruit salad, spaghetti and meatballs, Chicken Alfredo, green beans almandine, garlic bread, and chocolate fudge cake with a raspberry drizzle.
