Kids (and their parents) who remember Snoopy visiting the Cypress Festival last year can eagerly look forward to 2013’s Festival — the world’s most beloved beagle will be on hand for the fourth year as part of Knott’s Berry Farm’s Gold-level sponsorship. Snoopy will ride over from Camp Snoopy, which opened in 1983.
Camp Snoopy was an innovation in the amusement park industry: the first theme park area designed specifically for kids, and it features more than 30 rides and attractions just for them.
From its founding in 1920, after Walter Knott purchased ten acres of farmland, Knott’s Berry Farm has been an ongoing and dedicated supporter of the community. Walter Knott’s wife, Cordelia, opened her famous Chicken Dinner Restaurant in 1934, and the development of boysenberry as a basis for pies and jams soon followed. Walter eventually decided something had to be done to occupy the big crowds waiting for a seat at the restaurant.
So Walter built the Gold Trails Hotel in what would become Ghost Town, the first of six themed areas in the park. And admission was free.
The Knott family sold the business to Cedar Fair LP in 1997, sixteen years after Walter’s death. Cordelia had died in 1974 at the age of 84.
Knott’s Berry Farm is located at 8039 Beach Blvd. in Buena Park, just south of the 91 and 5 freeways. Its iconic structures, such as the Sky Cabin, Supreme Scream tower and Ghost Rider wooden roller coaster, are well known to those living and working nearby, and generations of kids have gleefully enjoyed Knott’s Timber Mountain Log Ride, Calico Mine Ride, and Camp Snoopy.
Knott’s Berry Farm has shown the way for other local businesses, organizations and individuals who are looking to step up and become involved with the Cypress Festival. Sponsorships are available at many levels, starting at $25 all the way to $1500+. Knott’s is one of the many sponsors who make this fantastic Festival possible each year through their dedication and support.
The community is invited to enjoy this exciting annual event on Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Oak Knoll Park located at 5700 Orange Ave. in Cypress. The Festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year, and it features such family-friendly attractions such as the chili cook-off, classic car show, arts and crafts vendors, Chamber of Commerce business expo, a variety of food vendors, and kids rides.
